That stung.  Emma turned away from him, sucking in a breath so quietly he wouldn’t hear.  She reached for the door and pushed it open.  ”Yeah?  You really mean that?”  She paused for a split second, not wanting another answer to push her over the edge.  ”I guess I never really belonged anyway,” she murmured as she walked out the door.

He tried to convince himself that he did really mean that. If she wanted to go then that just showed that she never really cared about him at all. “Fine,” he stated to no one in particular “I will just go to my other moms house.” he began to gather his things

Emma heard it through the cracked doorway.  She never wanted it to go this far, but hell… He was just like her—rebellious, unflinching—and she hated it.  The blonde walked down the stairs and before he could notice, she teleported herself to Regina’s with magic.  She scribbled a note and placed it under the knocker on the brunette’s door.

I’m sorry, Henry.  I just wanted you to see what you have.  I didn’t have anyone that cared about me, and you do.  You do and you take advantage of that fact. But I guess you’re right.  You shouldn’t have brought me here.  I’m not mom material.. but I will always love you, Henry.  I always have.

“Hey why are you being so mean! I am not doing anything to you! Just asking questions and i dont think there is anything wrong with that!”

Emma shook her head, looking down at her feet.  ”Well, like I said before, I’m leaving.  Have a good life, Henry.”  She walked back towards the door.

“You know what…fine! Go! I wish I had never brought you here anyway!”

Emma walked behind the kitchen counter and plucked her green toothbrush from the tiles.  ”It’s in here, kid.”  She waited for him to come back.

“oh.” He said settling back onto his perch at the top of the stairs “Why was it in there?”

“That’s where I brushed my teeth this morning.  Kid, don’t give me the third degree.  It’s not threatening from an 11-year-old, no matter how much taller you seem to be.”

Emma walked to the town line and sat there, waiting for thirty minutes before she started back home.  She took her time, dragging her feet over the sidewalk.  Once back at the apartment, she opened the door and walked in, looking around.

At the sound of the door opening he scrambled out of bed and stood at the top of the stairs. “I knew you wouldnt do it.”

“What are you talking about?” she asked, shifting the bag on her shoulder. “I forgot my toothbrush.”  She looked up at him, her face as serious as it ever was.

He quickly sprinted to the bathroom. “No you didnt! It isnt in here! Liar!”

“I already turned in my badge.  David is sheriff now.”  She listened to him, slowly walking forward.  ”I told you already, I’m leaving.  In fact, I’m about to be out of Storybrooke forever.”  Emma inhaled slowly.  ”I love you, Henry.”  She hung up.

She hung up on him. And that was that. He knew calling her again was useless so he simply went to her old room, curled up in her blankets and silently cried.

Emma shook her head to herself.  ”They lived without me for twenty eight years, kid.  They’ll be fine.”  She looked up at the sky and back to the line a few hundred yards before her.  ”I’m leaving.  It’s for the best.”

“But..but…” he was scarmbling for excuses “There’s something going on outside! And I think they need the sheriff! So you have to come back and do your job!”
